​In this talk, Dr. Montes focuses on predictors of substance use, protective behavioral strategy use, and alcohol recovery; specifically, pre-onset substance use expectancies, substance use identity, substance use initiation, and drinking/recovery identity. He also discusses the implications associated with addressing these research questions, in addition to future research that is needed to move the field forward in these areas.

Dr. Blaylock discusses how Northern Ireland, once a site of an intractable conflict, is now an exemplar of a post-conflict society. However, division along ethno-religious lines continues to shape the lives of people born after the peace agreement. This talk provides examples of how intergroup contact theory successfully promotes positive intergroup relations among children and young people and highlights the intersection of research, policy, and practice in Northern Ireland.
